Today we went to the Carlsbad Aqua farm next to the powerplant. At this farm, they produce clams, scallops, mussels, oysters, abalone, brine shrimp, copepods, and different seaweeds and kelp. It was very interesting to see the different creatures. They go through a very labor intensive process to cultivate the oysters and mussels which involves drying and tumbling every few weeks.
We are going to be able to test their copepods and brine shrimp in our classroom lab to see how they would reproduce best. Most likely in pairs, we will compare the brine shrimp and copepods in different concentrations and water salinity.
We got to take a lion nudibranch and a few abalone shells back to the lab. We named the lion nudibranch peanut butter.
